Outfalls Program

Manage stormwater outfalls — discharge points where water exits the storm sewer system into receiving waters.

Overview

The Outfalls program manages stormwater discharge points (outfalls) where water exits the storm sewer system into receiving waters. Sites assigned to this program have a set of outfall-specific fields in addition to the standard site fields.

Outfall-specific fields

In addition to the standard site fields, sites in the Outfalls program have:

  • Outfall ID: the unique identifier for the outfall.

  • Outfall Size: the outfall diameter in inches.

  • Outfall Owner: who owns the outfall (City, County, DOT, Private, State, or Other). Supports multiple selections to document shared ownership.

  • Outfall Type: the pipe material or construction (Reinforced Pipe, Corrugated Pipe, Box Culvert, Plastic Pipe, Ditch, or Ravine). Supports multiple selections to document mixed construction.

Program features

When a site is assigned to the Outfalls program, these features become available:

  • Inspections: Conduct outfall inspections and dry weather screenings.

  • Sampling: Collect water quality samples at outfalls.

  • Deficiencies: Track issues found during outfall inspections.

  • BMPs: Document BMPs at outfall sites.

  • Precipitation Events: Track weather for outfall monitoring.

  • Compliance Status: Track outfall compliance.

  • Risk Assessment: Assess outfall risk.

  • Files: Upload outfall documentation.

FAQ

Q: Can an outfall have multiple owners or types?

A: Yes. Both the owner and type fields support multiple selections, so you can document shared ownership or mixed-construction outfalls.

Q: What's a dry weather screening?

A: A dry weather screening is an inspection of an outfall during dry conditions to check for illicit discharges. If water is flowing from an outfall when it hasn't rained, it may indicate an unauthorized connection.
