Overview of the Construction Program

An overview of the Construction program — features, fields, and how it tracks compliance at active construction sites.

Overview

The Construction program manages stormwater compliance at active construction sites. It tracks inspections, precipitation events (including qualifying storm events), BMP implementations, training activities, sampling records, and deficiencies tied to construction projects.

Construction-specific features

When a site is assigned to the Construction program, these features become available:

  • Inspections: create inspection reports using construction-specific templates.

  • Precipitation Events: log rainfall events and track qualifying precipitation events that may trigger inspection requirements.

  • Qualifying Precipitation Events: auto-detected events meeting your permit's rainfall threshold. Must be enabled for your account by the SwiftComply team.

  • BMPs: document BMP implementations and track effectiveness.

  • Training Log: record training activities for site personnel.

  • Sampling: log water quality sampling with constituent monitoring.

  • Deficiencies: track compliance issues found during inspections.

  • Files: upload supporting documents (SWPPP, permits, plans).

  • Risk Assessment: assign risk scores to the site.

Construction site fields

Construction sites have additional fields beyond the standard site fields:

  • Construction Start Date / End Date

  • Site Acreage / Disturbed Acreage

  • Site Area Description

  • Regulatory Identifier: permit ID (the label varies by state).

  • Primary Contractor: name, company, email, phone, address.

  • On-Site Contact: name, email, phone, title, mobile, fax.

  • Administrative Contact: name, email, phone, title, full address.

  • Location Impact: magnitude of the site's impact on the watershed.

  • Monitored Constituents: override the default constituents with site-specific selections.

FAQ

Q: What triggers a qualifying precipitation event?

A: The system uses NOAA forecast data. Default thresholds are: initial rainfall ≥ 0.5 inches, continuing rainfall ≥ 0.25 inches, and probability of precipitation ≥ 50% within a 24-hour forecast period. Qualifying Precipitation Event tracking must be enabled by the SwiftComply team.

Q: How do I get started inspecting a construction site?

A: Open the site in the Construction program, navigate to Recent Activity > Inspections, and click Create Inspection. For the full walkthrough, see Managing a Construction Site (Inspections and Deficiencies).

Q: Where do I configure construction-specific report templates?

A: Inspection report templates are configured by the SwiftComply team. Contact your SwiftComply representative if a template needs to be added or changed.

Q: Can I track precipitation tied to a specific site?

A: Yes. From the site's record, navigate to the Precipitation section and add events. See Precipitation Events and Weather Data Integration for details.
