Logging Precipitation, BMPs, Training, and Sampling

How to log precipitation events, BMP installations, training activities, and sampling records on a construction site.

Overview

Construction sites track several data types beyond inspections: precipitation events (including qualifying storm events), BMP implementations, training logs, and sampling records. This article covers how to log each type.

Logging precipitation events

  1. Open the construction site.

  2. Navigate to the Precipitation section.

  3. Click to add a new event.

  4. Enter the start/end date, total rainfall, and aggregate method (event total, daily totals, or hourly totals).

  5. Indicate whether this is a qualifying precipitation event (meets your permit's storm threshold).

  6. Click Save.

Qualifying events may trigger inspection requirements under your construction stormwater permit, if configured to do so on your account.

Logging BMP installation steps

  1. From the site, navigate to the BMPs section.

  2. Select the BMP type from the database and describe how it's applied at this site.

  3. Set GPS coordinates to place the BMP on the site map.

  4. Upload photos documenting the installation.

  5. Rate the BMP's effectiveness.

  6. Click Save.

Track effectiveness over time by updating ratings during subsequent inspections.

Logging training

  1. Navigate to the Training Log section on the site.

  2. Click to add a new training entry.

  3. Enter: date, training topic/type, and attendees.

  4. Click Save.

Logging sampling

  1. Navigate to the Sampling section.

  2. Click to create a new sampling record.

  3. Enter: date, site, constituent(s) measured, values, analysis type (Field or Lab), and analysis method.

  4. Click Save.

Sampling data feeds into monitoring analytics and can be included in report prepopulation.

FAQ

Q: Does weather data auto-populate for construction sites?

A: Yes. If weather integration is configured (NOAA/Weather Underground/Aeris), precipitation data and forecasts auto-populate in report prepopulated fields for construction sites.

Q: What makes a precipitation event 'qualifying'?

A: A qualifying event meets your permit's rainfall threshold. The system defaults are 0.5 inches initial, 0.25 inches continuing, and 50% probability of precipitation within 24 hours.

Q: Can contractors log these items?

A: Contractors with access to the construction site can log precipitation events, BMPs, training, and sampling through the contractor portal interface.

Q: How do constituent overrides work for construction sites?

A: Construction sites have an 'Override Monitored Constituents' option that lets you select specific constituents to track at this site instead of using the program defaults.
