Who this article is for: Authority users who need to create or modify Industrial User records.
Overview
This article walks you through the complete lifecycle of an Industrial User record: creating a new IU, editing its details, changing its status, and deleting it when no longer needed.
Before You Begin
Navigate to Industrial Users in the left sidebar.

From the IU directory, click the New Industry button to open the creation form.

π‘ Tip: The system checks for duplicate IU names when you save. If a match is found, you'll be notified before the record is created.
Editing an Industrial User
Open the IU detail page by clicking the IU's row in the directory.
Click the pencil (edit) icon in the top-right corner of the IU Summary card.
Modify any fields as needed.
Click Save to apply your changes.
Changing IU Status
In edit mode, you can toggle the IU status between Active and Inactive.
Setting an IU to Inactive
Before you can set an IU to Inactive, all active legal controls (permits) must be terminated. The system will block the transition and display a message if active legal controls exist. Once all legal controls are terminated, you will be prompted to confirm by typing the IU name.
When an IU is set to Inactive, the system cascades changes to all associated data:
Outfalls:
All outfalls under the IU are set to Inactive
Sample Report Configurations:
All active Authority Sample Report Configurations (ASRCs) on the IU's outfalls are terminated
Draft ASRCs are also terminated
Industry-assigned SMRCs should already be terminated as part of terminating the legal controls (prerequisite)
Sample Reports:
Scheduled (future) sample reports are deleted
Past Due and Submitted reports are preserved
Discharge Limits:
All active limits on the IU's outfalls are set to Inactive
Contacts and Portal Access:
Contact records remain on the IU but their portal access is effectively disabled β contacts with portal access will no longer see the facility in their portal while the IU is inactive. The portal access setting itself is not changed, so when the IU is reactivated, portal access resumes automatically without needing to re-enable it
β οΈ Warning: Inactivating an IU is a significant action with broad cascading effects. Make sure all necessary data has been submitted and reviewed before proceeding.
Reactivating an IU
When you set an IU back to Active:
Outfalls must be reactivated manually, one by one
Notification limits on reactivated outfalls are automatically reactivated
Compliance limits remain inactive and must be reactivated through their legal control connections
Sample Report Configurations that were terminated during inactivation are not restored β you will need to create new SRCs if sampling requirements need to resume
Contacts and Portal Access resume automatically β contacts with portal access enabled will see the facility in their portal again once the IU is active
β οΈ Note: Reactivating an IU does not automatically restore its previous state. You must manually reactivate outfalls, verify limit statuses, and recreate any needed sampling configurations.
Deleting an Industrial User
To permanently delete an IU:
The IU must already be in Inactive status.
On the IU detail page, click the trash (delete) icon. This is a separate icon from the pencil (edit) icon.
Type the IU name to confirm the deletion.
β οΈ Warning: Deleting an IU permanently removes the record and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.
FAQ
Q: What fields are required to create an IU?
A: Industry Name, Service Address, Service City, Service State / Prov, and Service Postal Code are required.
Q: Why can't I delete an IU?
A: The IU must be in Inactive status before it can be deleted. If the IU has active legal controls, terminate those first, then set the IU to Inactive.
Q: Can I change the IU name after creation?
A: Yes. Click the pencil (edit) icon on the IU detail page and update the Industry Name field.
Q: What is the DBA Name field?
A: DBA stands for "Doing Business As." Use this field if the facility operates under a different name than the legal entity name entered in the Industry Name field.
