Industrial Users: Directory, Detail Page, and Contacts

Overview of the Industrial Users area — the IU directory, the IU detail page, and managing facility contacts.

Who this article is for: Authority users.

Overview

In pretreatment, an Industrial User (IU) is any facility that discharges wastewater into the public sewer system. Your Control Authority uses the IU directory in SwiftComply to track, manage, and monitor these facilities for compliance.

The IU Directory

Navigate to Industrial Users in the left sidebar. This opens a searchable, sortable table of all Industrial Users in your system.

The default visible columns are:

Additional columns are available through the column menu, including DBA Name, Account Number, and others. Use the column menu to show or hide columns based on your needs.

Click any row in the directory to open that IU's detail page.

IU Statuses

Status

Description

Active

The facility is currently discharging and monitored under the program.

Inactive

The facility is no longer discharging or has been shut down.

What Happens When an IU Is Set to Inactive

When you change an IU's status from Active to Inactive, the system automatically:

  • Terminates active sample report configurations.

  • Deletes scheduled (future) sample reports.

  • Preserves submitted and historical sample reports.

  • Marks contacts and outfalls as inactive.

⚠️ Important: You cannot set an IU to Inactive if it has active legal controls. The system will display: "This industrial user has active legal controls. Legal controls must be terminated in order to make an industrial user inactive."

What Happens When an IU Is Reactivated

When you change an IU's status back from Inactive to Active:

  • Notification-definition limits are automatically reactivated.

  • Compliance limits remain inactive and must be reactivated manually.

  • Outfalls and contacts remain inactive and must be reactivated manually.
