Overview
The Attachments tab on an assembly's detail page brings together every file associated with that assembly in one place. You can upload files directly, view images from test reports, and access files that were attached to notes — all without digging through individual records.
Finding the Attachments Tab
Open an assembly record.
Click the Attachments tab (seventh tab, after Notes).
Where Attachments Come From
The Attachments tab shows files from three sources:
Source | Description |
Direct upload | Files you upload directly to the assembly |
From a note | Files attached to a note on this assembly (shown with a link back to the note) |
Test report | Images from test reports, surfaced at the assembly level (read-only) |
The Source column in the list view identifies where each file came from.
Adding an Attachment
Click Add Attachment.
Drag and drop files onto the upload area, or click to select files from your device.
Files upload in parallel — if some fail, only the failed files show an error; successful files are saved normally.
Supported file types: JPEG, JPG, PNG, PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, CSV
Maximum file size: 32 MB per file
Total attachments: No limit per assembly.
List View and Grid View
Toggle between views using the icons at the top of the tab. Your preference is remembered.
List view shows a table with these columns:
Column | What It Shows |
Label | A custom label for the file (defaults to filename if not set). A star icon indicates the cover image. |
Filename | The original filename. |
File Type | A friendly label: Image, PDF, DOCX, etc. |
Source | Where the file came from, with a link to the source record. |
Added By | The user who added the file. |
Added On | The date the file was added. |
Grid view shows thumbnail cards. Image files display a preview; PDFs and documents show a file-type icon. Each card shows the filename, who added it, and the date. A star badge in the corner indicates the cover image.
Attachment Detail Modal
Click any file to open its detail modal.
Field | Description |
Label | Editable custom name for the file. Defaults to the filename. |
Show in carousel | (Image files only) — toggles whether this image appears in the header carousel. |
Set as cover image | (Image files only) — sets this as the first image shown in the carousel. Enabling cover automatically enables carousel visibility. |
Source | Read-only. Shows the file's origin. |
Download | Downloads the file to your device. |
Delete | Permanently deletes the file (direct uploads only — see Permissions below). |
Deleting a file: Click Delete and type DELETE in the confirmation dialog. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
The Image Carousel
The header of every assembly detail page includes an image carousel to the right of the map. It shows images that have been marked Show in carousel.
The cover image (if set) always appears first.
Other visible images follow in order of most recently uploaded.
Click any image to open a full-screen lightbox with left/right navigation.
If no images are marked visible, the carousel shows an empty state with an Add an image link that takes you to the Attachments tab.
Images from test reports will appear in the carousel by default. You can remove them from this view by clicking the photo within the carousel, then click “edit attachment” and uncheck the “Show in image carousel” box. Click Save Changes to confirm your change.
Images can come from any of the three attachment sources — direct uploads, note attachments, and test reports — as long as they're marked visible.

FAQ
Q: Why can't I delete a file from the Attachments tab?
A: Files sourced from a note can only be managed from the Notes tab. Files from test reports are read-only at the assembly level and can only be managed from the test report itself.
Q: How do I set a cover image?
A: Click the file to open its detail modal, then check Set as cover image. Only org admins and the file's uploader can do this.
Q: Why isn't my image showing in the carousel?
A: Only images with Show in carousel enabled appear in the header. Open the file's detail modal and enable that toggle. Note that only the file's uploader or an org admin can change this setting.
Q: Can I upload iPhone photos?
A: Yes — HEIC (the default iPhone photo format) is supported.
Q: I uploaded several files and some failed. What should I do?
A: Successful files were saved normally. Re-upload only the files that failed.
Q: What's the difference between a label and a filename?
A: The filename is the original name of the file as uploaded. The label is an optional custom name you can set in the detail modal — useful for giving a file a descriptive name without renaming the underlying file.
