Why Templates Are Required
To create a specific legal control (permit), you must first create a template. The template defines the structure and content of the permit and is required to finalize and enforce compliance limits or SMRCs tied to a specific control.
Accessing the Template Editor
- Go to Configurations from the left-hand navigation.
 β
- Click the Templates tile.
 β
- Expand the Permitting category to view existing templates.
- Use the three-dot menu next to a template to duplicate or delete it.
Deleting a template has no effect on permits already created with it.
Creating a New Template
- Click + New Template.
- Select Permitting as the category.
- Name the template and begin editing in the rich text editor.
- Use the toolbar on the right to insert fields and tables from the application.
You can paste in existing Word-based permit content and customize it using the provided template components.
Types of Template Fields
Templates include four types of field components to support custom formatting and dynamic data population:
Permit Fields
- Add editable fields that appear in the permit form (e.g., permit number, effective date, expiration date).
- Required fields like effective/expiration dates are used to control enforceability.
System Fields
- Automatically pull in existing data from the system (e.g., IU name, address).
- Useful for minimizing manual entry during permit creation.
Data Entry Fields
- Allow users to enter extra details in a created permit (e.g., text fields, checkboxes, dates).
- Content is not stored in the broader system, only in the document.
System Tables
- Insert tables that connect the permit to specific compliance limits or SMRCs.
- Required to enforce sampling or limit configurations through a permit.
Managing Templates
- Templates have no status lifecycle.
- You can edit, duplicate, or delete them at any time.
- Deleting or editing a template does not affect permits that have already been generated using it.
Try It Out
- Create a new permit template.
- Add at least one field from each category.
- Insert system tables for limits and SMRCs.
- Add formatted text and an image.
- Save the template.
