Overview
When you replace a backflow assembly in the field, you can report the swap right inside the test report — flag the assembly you're replacing, add the new one, and submit them together with your test. The authority reviews and approves the replacement; there's no separate request to file.
⚠️ The replacement is staged. Nothing changes on the existing assembly until the authority accepts the report. Until then, the new assembly is locked — it can't be edited, replaced, or deleted.

Two ways to start a replacement
Both options start from the Choose Assembly step of the test report.
Option 1: The Replace button
Find the assembly you're replacing in the Choose Assembly table.
In its Actions column, click Replace (next to Test).
A Replacing banner appears, pre-filled with the assembly you selected — its serial number, type, make and model, size, and location.
Change — pick a different assembly to replace.
Not a Replacement — back out and treat this as a normal new assembly.
Enter the new assembly's details, complete the test, and submit.
Option 2: The New Assembly button
Below the Choose Assembly table, click New Assembly.
Answer the required question: "Is this assembly replacing another at this location?"
Yes — click Pick assembly to replace, choose the assembly from the list (only assemblies at that location are shown), and continue.
No — continue as a normal new assembly.
Complete the test and submit.
💡 You can switch between Yes and No any time before you submit. Switching to No keeps the new assembly you entered — it just drops the replacement link.
⚠️ You must answer the replacement question before you can submit. If you skip it, you'll see "Please answer whether this assembly is replacing another one at this location." If you answer Yes but don't choose an assembly, you'll see "Choose the assembly this one is replacing above."
What happens after you submit
Your test report, the new assembly, and the replacement submit together and go to the authority for review. Replacements are never auto-accepted — they always wait for a person to review them.
The swap stays staged: the assembly you replaced is untouched, and the new assembly is locked until the authority accepts the report.
If the authority sends the report back, it returns to you to correct and resubmit. If they reject it, the new assembly is removed.
FAQ
Q: Do I have to use the Replace button?
A: No. You can also click New Assembly and answer Yes to the replacement question — both paths do the same thing.
Q: I picked the wrong assembly to replace — can I fix it?
A: Before submitting, use Change (or switch the question to No and back to Yes) to choose the right one. After submitting, ask the authority to send the report back or reject it, then resubmit.
