Configuring Your Pretreatment Program Settings

Step-by-step guide to configuring your pretreatment program settings, including templates, POTW settings, IU types, General Controls, and program-wide reference data.

Who this article is for: Authority users.

Overview

SwiftComply Pretreatment's configuration options are centralized under the Configuration section in the left sidebar. These settings control permit templates, general controls, and IU type categorization.

Accessing Configuration

Click Configuration in the left sidebar. The Configuration page displays two tiles:

Tile

Purpose

Templates

Manage permit templates used when creating new permits.

POTW

Manage General Controls and Industrial User Types.

Templates

Permit templates define the structure and content of permits created through the permit wizard. Templates include form fields, report requirements, and document structure.

Navigate to Configuration > Templates to view and manage available templates.

πŸ’‘ Tip: For detailed guidance on creating and editing permit templates, see the permit templates article.

POTW Settings

Click the POTW tile to access the POTW configuration area. This is where you manage the regulatory controls and IU categorization that form the foundation of your pretreatment program.

The POTW page has two tabs: General Controls and Industrial User Types.

General Controls Tab

General Controls represent your sewer use ordinances and regulatory controls. The General Controls tab lists all controls with their status, name, effective date, and other details.

From this tab you can:

  • Create new General Controls β€” click "New General Control".

  • View and manage existing controls β€” click a row to open the detail page where you can edit the control.

  • Filter and sort the list by status or other fields.

Industrial User Types Tab

IU Types are the categories used to classify industrial users in your program (e.g., Significant Industrial User, Categorical Industrial User, Non-Significant, etc.).

From this tab you can:

  • Create new types β€” click "New IU Type" and enter the type name.

  • Delete custom types β€” select types and click Delete.

  • View the count of IUs assigned to each type.

⚠️ Note: System default IU types cannot be deleted. Only custom types you have created can be removed.

Program-Wide Reference Data

Some reference data used across the system β€” such as analytes, units, limit types, and lab methods β€” is managed at the system level. If you need changes to this reference data, contact your SwiftComply administrator.
