Who this article is for: Authority users who manage IU Type classifications.
Overview
IU Types are labels you assign to Industrial Users to categorize them within your pretreatment program — for example: SIU, CIU, Non-Significant, or Zero Discharge. Each IU can have multiple types assigned. The system includes default types shared across all organizations, plus custom types you can create for your own program.
Where to Find IU Types
Navigate to Configuration in the left sidebar.
Click the POTW tile.
Select the Industrial User Types tab.
The IU Types Grid
The grid displays the following columns:
Column | Description |
Checkbox | Selection checkbox for custom types (system defaults have no checkbox) |
Type | The type name, with description shown if one exists (e.g., "Type - Description") |
Count | The number of Industrial Users currently assigned this type |
💡 Note: System default types are shared across all organizations and cannot be deleted or modified.
Creating a New IU Type
Click the New IU Type button.
In the modal, enter a name in the IU Type field.
Click Save.
⚠️ Important: There is no edit functionality for IU Types in the current interface. If you need to change a type name, delete the existing type and create a new one with the correct name.
Deleting IU Types
Select one or more custom types using the checkboxes in the grid.
Click the Delete button.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
⚠️ Warning: Deleting an IU Type removes the assignment from all Industrial Users currently using that type. This action cannot be undone.
Assigning Types to an Industrial User
Navigate to the IU detail page.
Click the pencil (edit) icon in the IU Summary card.
Use the IU Type(s) multi-select dropdown to add or remove types.
Click Save to apply changes.
FAQ
Q: Can I edit an existing IU Type name?
A: No. To change a name, delete the old type and create a new one with the correct name.
Q: What happens when I delete a type that's assigned to IUs?
A: The type is removed from all associated Industrial Users. The IU records themselves are not affected.
Q: Can I delete system default types?
A: No. System default types are shared across all organizations and cannot be modified or deleted.
Q: How many types can I assign to one IU?
A: There is no limit. You can assign as many types as needed using the multi-select dropdown on the IU edit form.
