SwiftComply Backflow Product Updates - March 2026

Updated today

We’ve made improvements to how SwiftComply validates test kit calibrations and tester certifications when backflow test reports are submitted.

These updates help ensure that the equipment and credentials associated with a test were valid on the date the test was performed.

The goal is simple: make compliance easier and ensure records more accurately reflect real testing conditions.

What Problem Are We Solving?

Accurate test records rely on two things: properly calibrated test kits and certified testers. While SwiftComply has always stored this information, the system did not previously validate all of these details at the time a report was submitted.

Before this update:

  • Test kit calibration dates were not validated. When a test was submitted, the system did not check whether the selected calibration was valid on the test date.

  • The certification shown on the test report was not validated against the test date. SwiftComply already checks that testers have the required certifications for an organization, but the specific certification selected in the form was not verified to ensure it was valid when the test occurred. This did not allow unqualified testers to submit reports, but it could have displayed a certification that wasn’t actually valid at the time of testing.

  • Test kit and calibration information in the form could be edited. Previously, this information was simply copied into fields on the test report form and could be changed manually rather than being tied to the underlying record.

This update strengthens those connections so that test reports reflect verified calibration and certification records.

What’s Changing

Service Provider Selection Page

Initially, when submitting a report, testers would select a Service Provider, Tester, and Test kit. Now, on the same screen, they will also see fields to select a the Tester Certification and the Test Kit Calibration.

The certification options appear after selecting a tester, and calibration options appear after selecting a test kit.

Continue Button Before the Test Form

After making selections, users will click Continue to enter the test report form.

This step was added so users can return to the Service Provider Selection page from anywhere in the form if they need to change the tester, certification, test kit, or calibration.

Tester Info & Test Kit

Information from the selected records will automatically populate into the test report form.

These fields are now read-only, meaning they cannot be edited directly in the form. This ensures the values always match the selected tester certification and calibration records.

If the Tester or Test Kit selected need to be changed, you can now select the "Edit Tester & Kit" button at the bottom left of the report. This button is displayed throughout the report and will take you back to the initial Tester & Kit selection page. You'll be able to make edits as needed, click "Continue", and you will be taken back to the furthest completed section of the form, with all of your progress saved.

Validation Improvements

The system now performs additional checks when a test report is submitted.

Calibration Validation

When submitting a report, SwiftComply verifies that:

  • The test date falls within the calibration’s valid date range

  • The calibration record is approved

If either condition is not met, the report cannot be submitted until a valid calibration is selected.

The same validation message will also appear when clicking into an In Progress test report.

If a calibration has not yet been approved, the test report cannot be submitted until it is.

The same validation message will also appear when clicking into an In Progress test report.

Certification Validation

SwiftComply also checks that the selected certification is valid for the test date.

Because certifications only store an expiration date, the system verifies that the test date occurs before the certification expiration date, including any configured grace period.

If the certification is expired relative to the test date, the report cannot be submitted.

These messages will also appear when clicking into an In Progress test report.

Organization Setting

Organizations that do not require test kit enforcement can disable the test kit selection and validation requirement through an organization setting. If you'd like to change your settings, reach out to your CSM or contact our support team at help@swiftcomply.com.

Please note that if the test kit or calibration fields are currently required in your test report, these will be to be changed before this setting can be adjusted.

Potential Usability Changes

Most workflows remain the same, but users may notice a couple of differences:

  • Some fields in the form that were previously editable are now read-only because they come directly from system records.

  • An Edit Tester & Kit button was added to allow you to navigate back to the intitial Service Provider page and adjuist your Tester and Test Kit selections before completing the report.

  • Users must now click Continue to move into the test report form.

These changes help ensure that test reports reflect verified calibration and certification data.

Summary

This update improves how SwiftComply validates test reports by ensuring that:

  • Test kits are properly calibrated on the test date

  • Tester certifications are valid for the test date

  • Report data is tied directly to verified records in the system

These improvements help programs maintain more accurate records and support stronger compliance across backflow testing programs.
